JEDDAH: Pakistan’s rising star Muhammad Hassan Usmani thumped Turkmenistan’s Suleyman Hudayberdiyev to clinch Asian 14 & Under (Category 2) singles title here on Friday.
Usmani, who has been in a purple patch throughout the tournament, defeated Hudayberdiyev 6-3, 6-1 in a one-sided affair.
Usmani had also secured a straight-set victory in the semi-final as he outclassed Philippines’ Marcus Lorenzo Go 6-0, 6-1, dropping only one game.
For the unversed, with ATP Asian U14 glory, Usmani has now won two titles in two months. He triumphed at the Asgabat Open, held in Turkmenistan last month.
Entering the tournament as a wildcard, Usmani delivered a stellar performance throughout the competition. He began his campaign by upsetting the eighth seed Kerimgeldi Velibegov in the pre-quarterfinal, followed by a victory over the fourth seed Aly Geldyev in the quarterfinal.
In the final, Hassan Usmani dominated Hudayberdiyev with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory.
This was only ninth game of Usmani’s career while Suleyman came to this experience of 62 games in his career.
However, the Pakistani youngster displayed remarkable dominance over his experienced opponent to win his seventh international match.
Meanwhile, in the doubles category, Usmani, who is paired with Hudayberdiyev, will now take on Saudi Arabia’s Anas Alzahrany and Souhail El-Taji El-Farouki in the final.
The duo achieved remarkable success as the pair in the tournament, the highlight of which was their 7-5, 6-2 victory in the semi-final over Lorenzo Go and Iraq’s Fahad Saif.
